Jewellery Care

For Silver, Gold and Platinum.

This is MY advice, BUT please  take advice from another professional jeweller if you are in any doubt. I take no responsibilty for damage caused if care is not taken.

CLEANING

Due to our modern lifestyle there is an increase of pollution such as sulphur, which causes tarnish especially with silver. Perfumes, hairspray and sometimes certain soap can cause jewellery to tarnish.

With the increase of allergies, I prefer to avoid the use of chemicals such as dips. I have reduced the use of chemicals in my polishing process due to allergies and enviromental reasons. However if you are using cleaners successfully, then please continue.

For cleaning I suggest every six months using a soft tooth brush and a bowl of warm soapy water. I would use a few drops of plain non-ammoniated dishwashing liquid. Please be gentle with the brush to avoid damage. Always clean in a safe place, losing a diamond stud earring down the drain can cause problems!

This method is useful for cleaning where dirt has accululated, in between the links of chain and behind stones.

Please avoid antique jewellery, soft tones such as pearls or stones that are glued in place and DO NOT use this method for watches. If in doubt ask a professional jeweller.

 GENERAL CARE

For general care, gently rub your jewellery with a soft clean cloth. Avoid tissue and towelling as they could scratch the surface.

Carefully store jewellery seperately, not jumbled together.

Remove jewellery when doing rough work and store safely.
